Property Buying
Schemes Available
Several schemes are available to help make buying a property more affordable, particularly for first-time buyers.
These options can reduce the deposit required or make monthly payments more manageable. Each scheme has its own eligibility criteria, so it's worth understanding which one suits your situation.
First Homes Scheme
A government-backed scheme offering selected new-build homes at a discount (usually 30–50%) for first-time buyers and key workers.
Shared Ownership
You buy a share of a property (typically 25%–75%) and pay rent on the remaining portion.
Lifetime ISA (LISA)
A savings account where the government adds a 25% bonus (up to £1,000 per year) towards your first home.
Mortgage Guarantee Scheme
Designed to help buyers purchase a home with just a 5% deposit, with lenders supported by a government guarantee.
Right to Buy
Available to eligible council tenants, allowing them to purchase their home at a significant discount.
Help to Buy (Wales only)
Still available in Wales, this scheme offers an equity loan to help buyers purchase a new-build property.
